Research Team

The team aims to enhance the resilience and sustainability of materials and structures, shifting the paradigm of traditional infrastructure to face the perils of global warming. They work on developing science-enabled engineering innovations from the nano to the macroscale, designing new and improved sustainable material systems that enhance society’s resilience to climate change. The team focuses on reducing the carbon footprint of materials and structures by pioneering bold solutions for traditional and new materials, including cement-based, polymer-based, and bio-inspired materials with enhanced durability, resilience, and reduced environmental impacts. They also explore future durable building materials, topology optimization, computational mechanics and structural dynamics, structural health monitoring, and intelligent structures. Their work aims to change the paradigm of the built environment to become part of the solution for our natural habitat in the 21st century.
